Carl Maria von Weber (1786 - 1826)

He was a child prodigy like Mozart are. Such was his father. Born in Eutin Carl Maria von Weber was trained from early childhood musical. He wrote several operas, the most famous: Der Freischütz.

Carl Maria Friedrich Ernst von Weber was born on November 18, 1786 in Eutin. Before he could speak properly, he received piano and singing lessons. With nine years he wrote his first composition, the organ version of Martin Luther song "Vom Himmel hoch". Age of 13, he gave his first public concert pianist and settled in Vienna and Munich train as pianist and composer. With 18 years Weber was conductor at the Breslau Opera, then headed the private orchestra of Württemberg Duke Eugen Friedrich.

Stations in Munich, Berlin, Weimar and Prague

In the following years he lived as a pianist in Munich, Leipzig and Berlin, and at the court in Gotha and Weimar. Between 1813 and 1816 he was director of the opera in Prague, 1817 Royal conductor of the opera in Dresden. In 1817 he married the singer Caroline Brandt. Weber was also active as a writer.

The Marksman

His opera "Der Freischütz" was successfully premiered on June 18, 1821 in Berlin. She established his reputation as an outstanding opera composer of the early German Romanticism.

Order from London

1824 was Carl Maria von Weber commissioned to write for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden in London an opera. Weber himself conducted the premiere of "Oberon" on 12 April 1826 in London.

Buried in Dresden

He died on June 5, 1826 in the British capital of tuberculosis. 18 years later Richard Wagner Weber led coffin to Dresden to convert. There Weber was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery.

Eutiner Festival

Since 1951 are in Eutin, where a bust of the composer remembered annually Festival in honor of Weber's organized. More than 40,000 visitors are drawn to the operas and operettas every summer for the open-air theater in the old castle garden.
