biography


Matthias Hoffmann-Borggrefe was born in the West German region of Sourland.

He had his first piano lesson at the age of five and played trombone and Viola.

He studied church music in Dusseldorf, trombone and orchestra conductor and graduated 1991 with honors.

From 1989 to 2002, he was Music Director at the Matthäi Church in Dusseldorf. Since 2002, Hoffmann-Borggrefe is Music Director of Ev. Luth. Main Church St. Nikolai in Hamburg.

With the choirs of the Kantorei St. Nikolai and the Hamburger Camerata Orchestra, he performs a versatile and extensive program (for example choir, organ, orchestra, chamber concerts, lectures/readings, and oratorios) in which he always emphasizes the liturgical features.
