biography
Friedrich Suckel began studying piano at the age of six. In 1998 he entered the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin, starting off with a major in vocal coaching with Professor Alexander Vitlin and later continuing studies in „Liedbegleitung“ with Prof. Semjon Skigin and Prof. Wolfram Rieger. In 2001 he studied conducting with Prof. Rolf Reuter, receiving diplomas with highest marks.
While still at the Hochschule, Christian Thielemann engaged him as his musical assistant and Solorepetitor (vocal coach) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. There he worked with such conductors as Ulf Schirmer, Marc Albrecht and Adam Fischer.
In 2006 he worked as musical assistent at the Bayreuther Festspiele, helping to prepare the new production of the „Ring des Nibelungen“. He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and performed in concerts under the leadership of Pierre Boulez, Claudio Abbado and Ivan Fischer.
In the last two years he worked regularly at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as musical assistant, especially for the famous production of „Der Rosenkavalier“ (with Renée Fleming and Christian Thielemann) and „Tannhäuser“ with Phillipe Jordan and “Elektra” with Christian Thielemann. Starting in 2010 he is the new Studienleiter (head of the musical rehearsal department) at the Oper Leipzig.
