biography

Born in Berlin, Yvi Jänicke studied singing with Helmut Kretschmar in Detmold after completing her studies in piano and teaching music. She has won several competitions, amongst others the 1st prize in the field of song at the International Singing Competition in s'Hertogenbosch (Netherlands).
After first engagements at the opera houses of Krefeld / Mönchengladbach and Bern (Switzerland), she has been a member of the soloists ensemble at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, where she sung more than 40 different roles.

Besides she has also concentrated on singing oratories and giving songs recitals and her busy concert activity has taken her to most European countries, as well as to the USA, Canada, Singapore and Japan.

At most of the german broadcasting stations she has made radio productions and has recorded several CDs, including Gustav Mahlers „Lied von der Erde“, Hans Pfitzners:“Der Blumen Rache”, J.S.Bachs Johannespassion and 5 Solo-CDs with songs of Georges Bizet, Ermanno Wolf Ferrari, Robert Volkmann, Carl
Loewe and Julius Weismann.

She has sung under the direction of many notable conductors such as Dmitrij Kitajenko, Semyon Bychkov, David Shallon, Ingo Metzmacher, Christoph Eschenbach, Kazushi Ono, Roberto Abbado, Ion Marin, Denis Russel Davis, Miguel Gomez Martinez, Alessandro de Marchi, Michail Jurowski, Christof Prick, Lothar
Zagrosek, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Janos Kulka, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Peter Schreier, Helmut Rilling, Stefan Soltesz, Gerd Albrecht and Marek Janowski and has taken part in renowned festivals such as the Luzerner Festwochen, the Schubertiade Feldkirch, the Bergen-Festival, the Lincoln Center Festival New York and the Schleswig-Holstein-Festival.

She worked with famous stage directors such as Willy Decker, Peter Konwitschny, Ruth Berghaus, Alfred Kirchner und Harry Kupfer.

Since 2008 she teaches as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
