09.12.2007 - New Release TRO-CD 01432 Contemporary Sacred Music from Estonia

Our newest CD production introduces the extraordinary chamber choir ‘Orthodox Singers’ from Tallinn, Estonia, with its conductor Valery Petrov. For its first CD release on TROUBADISC, this unique ensemble has chosen sacred a cappella choral works by famous Estonian Composers:

The first composition of the present CD is Antiphones by Andres Uibo, composed specially for conductor Valery Petrov and his wonderful choir. The recording is a world premiere.

Moreover you hear two compositions by the famous Estonian composer Veljo Tormis: At the Crossroads from the medieval Russian epic poem The Three Journeys of Ilja Muromez (a world premiere recording) and the composition Tower Bell in my Village, based on the words of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.

The Estonian Composer Arvo Pärt must not be missed on this CD! You hear three parts from the Canon of Repentance. This work utilizes a prayer book text in use since the earliest times in the Russian church.

We are very happy about our “CD-footing”, but just the same way we are looking forward keenly to seeing further releases with this excellent chamber choir!
